Pet Design dog grooming and cat grooming salons provide services for the northern Sydney suburbs of Lane Cove and Epping and their surrounding areas. Our goal is to develop a life-long relationship with you and your pet by providing a friendly, professional and compassionate service. We value our clients, listen to them and we are always careful to address your pets individual needs.
At Pet Design our grooming staff are fully trained professionals who have either studied overseas from one to three years at a recognised dog grooming academy or have been involved in clipping and grooming dogs to breed specific standard in Australia.
Pet Design is a proud Pets Australia member. Pets Australia members uphold a Code of Practice and Code of Honour that defines them as passionate pet people who strive to improve the care and welfare of pets.
Services for dogs provided by Pet Design include nails only, dog bathing only, cat bathing only, short clips and our speciality breed clips and longer clips.
The breed clips and longer clips are all hand scissored which requires skill and patience. These clips are more expensive because of the time and expertise required to make your dog look beautiful. All dogs require bathing prior to grooming and clipping so that we can dry the hair straight to obtain the best finish possible.
Some dogs, especially our older clients and dogs that have a previous injuries, find standing for extended periods to be groomed can be quite taxing and uncomfortable. We use specific passive and supporting handling techniques to overcome this problem. No sedation is ever used on any dog.
Cat grooming is completed without sedation and we normally groom and clip the cat in the presence of the owner who can help to keep their cat calm. We have a large amount of success grooming cats without sedation and we know it is better for the cat in the long run.
Cat grooming is perfomed by Jenny Kent by appointment only at the Lane Cove, Epping and Manly salons. It usually takes less than 30 minutes and the cost is greatly reduced due to sedation not being required.
Please phone or email for an appointment.
The tummy and rear are clipped very short, It starts under the armpits, continues past the stomach area, the inside of the back legs and stops under the tail.
All the fur is clipped except the head, feet and the tail. Please note that this clip can be in various lengths according to the owners preference. However the cat needs to be clipped very short if there are knots.
The cat is bathed and blow-dried.
Since we always consider the comfort of your pet, it is our policy that under no condition are any pets to hurt in any way, all pets with matts or knots in the coat have to be clipped short. Matts can diminish blood flow to the skin and consequently skin deterioration can occur if the matts are allowed to stay in the coat over long periods of time.
Attempting to brush out large matts does cause pain and bruising. The only way large matts can be removed, without having your pet go through considerable pain, is for the blade on the clipper to go under the matts. This results in the pets hair being as short as is necessary to facilitate removal of the matts. Small matts can be removed using a slicing technique so that the hair looks like there was no matt there at all.
Fleas are a constant problem especially in summer or when the weather is warm and humid. In our salon we combat fleas by using Capstar and Frontline spray. Experience has taught us that animals with fleas are best washed in a soothing shampoo and conditioner so that the skin is not irritated and given a Capstar to kill the fleas. Capstar is a short acting remedy and only lasts for nine hours during which time owners can obtain advice from their vet and use a much longer acting remedy to kill the fleas. Please remember that each flea can lay up two thousand eggs so it is essential to sterilize the eggs as well as get rid of the fleas if you wish to never have fleas again. more
In 2000 our dog grooming business experience commenced with the purchase of Marcia’s Northshore Grooming Centre at Lane Cove. The business was first run as a sole proprietor with a permanent staff of two groomers. In 2005 the structure of the business was changed to that of a company and the name was changed to Pet Grooming Australia Pty Ltd trading as Pet Design Grooming Services. In 2006 we started up our second salon at Epping and in 2010 we purchased our third salon in Manly, formerly Northside Grooming. With the increase in salons and the consequent increase in clientele we now employ five permanent full time staff and six people part time. As of September 2017 Sayaka Tano is the new owner of the Manly Salon and is trading under the name Scissored Paws.
Pet Design employees work as a team. It doesn’t matter at which salon they are based, all employees work together to improve the business. Team members are trained in various aspects of the business and up-skilled in their dog grooming abilities both in-house and by specialists in their field. They are encouraged and trained to be excellent groomers, have very good customer service skills and as a result are respected by the community and their peers. Every day we will strive to be as good as or better than all others in all aspects of our business. This means not only our grooming but our customer service, our health and safety procedures, our dog and cat handling, our animal knowledge and our salon’s cleanliness need to be first rate at all times.
